It's a damn shame Happy Noodle didn't make it. It had 1000x more effort put into it then the Jawesome crap ever could.
Well, at least the staff has the sense to hand pick the voting pool for the Best of 2009 rather than let everyone vote. Who knows what could happen if it was like the latter.
I was shocked when I got to vote this month.
But I only saw one of my selections in the top 5 flash submissions. And that was Pleasure Island 2, not some untalented hack's recycled dickfart.
La isla del Placer 2 was really nice (its not for everyone but it was still really nice imo).

But this is an entertainment website, not an animation website. Pretty moving pictures aren't always what people want to see, and so long as it's the audience that judges how your movie ranks, it's the audience you have to appeal to if you want to score high. It's up to the artist in question to be happy with simply creating their work and making it available rather than racking up points.
It's pretentious to assume people are full of shit because they didn't like the same things you do. RWappin's piece may have been better, but it's just better to us. It wasn't better to 80% of other people on NG, and even if they're all dumbasses, we're the dumbasses who come to their website and demand they think differently.
Besides, art is art and entertainment is entertainment, and in the competition between the two you'll find that art always loses (unless it qualifies as both).

I dont punish entertainment. I like being entertained and I like silly cartoons and I dont ALWAYS mind about the animation being so amusing.
sure art is art and entertainment is entertainment, absolutely agreed. But just because art is going to lose against entertainment that doesnt mean entertainment has to be bad. There is shitty,mediocre entertainent and there is phenomenal entertainment with quality.
the metal gear fish movie is the first type. Entertainment with quality pays off the same as entertainment WITHOUT quality.

Cuboy barely had any time to be noticed before the monthly voting began. Will could have uploaded in time to compete for this month instead, but he chose to get it out the door. I'm sure he's fine with it.

It's pretty clear a cyborg raping a grey skinned 12 year old would be very popular here, but that's one of my problems with this site. Get that shit off here and put it somewhere else where people can masturbate. I don't want it to overshadow, in my opinion, the real talented people on this site.
These monthly voting things make this site seem like it's growing into youtube, but I know it's not.
Sure Fred was funny, and I'm sure I laughed when I saw a video of puppy running around like an idiot, but there's a point where you say: that's not fair. I mean, Emanhattan, you have to agree with me that throwing things in like porn and mario will automatically give you more overall attention than anything else will.
Then again, happy noodle and cuboy 3 DID make it into the top 20, so some people had to have voted for them.
And then you look at the view count, and you see Metal gill has about 100,000 views, while happy noodle has HALF that, around 50,000. Cuboy 3 has EVEN LESS at 30,000.
But I'm sure I'm taking this WAY too seriously, because 30,000 views are A LOT of views.
And it's like 12:50 where I am. I should probably go to bed.
But I also think that probably the biggest difference between 'us' and the people you refer to is that 'we' make flash, or any kind of content for that matter, and the other people don't.

I do think my views derive from the fact that I do make flash and care about animation (even tough I know newgrounds is not precisely the epitome of animation) but even if I wasnt as "art oriented" as I am, I would still have a very critical eye about these things.

You got to admit though, animation wise that hentai video was well made but probably didn't deserve first place due to immature pervs voting it for 1st.
But metal gill is just an outrage, wtf half the time its not even animated just like one frame with a voice over it. And the art is pretty terrible. Too bad there's nothing we can do about people 5'ing them just cause it made them LOL a bit.
I think they should keep the 2000 voters but after that get a panel of like 5-6 people like you said to judge the votes and get the final decision.
People just vote for what they like, and not what is "good". You have pick your top 10 favorites, and not "the top 10 quality movies". I think we're all guilty of it. For example, I somehow got on that voting panel, and voted for Tehde Bogey or however its spelled. In no way was that a "good" "quality" movie, but it was so outrageous and ridiculous it just stuck out as one of my favorites of the month. So whenever I see what the top 5 of the month are, I take it with a grain of salt - because they aren't the 5 best movies of the month. They're just what the majority happened to like - and we are all aware of what that majority consists of.

Well I guess some of this also comes from the fact the more you vote the more weight the vote carries. Also speaking of stuff that is more popular than it deserved to be DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FREAKING RED MOON! What I think is just adding insult to injury is that a lot of good stuff falls into obsucrity because only a few people recommend stuff for collections so we have stuff that can be called a work of art like "Me Bill" that is more or less forgotten in a month or to. I guess its good to see news posts like this to remind me to think when voting/reviewing especially since in tend to be pretty generous when I rate stuff.
